Discover 3 Ways Your Organization Can Harness The Greatness of the Millennial Generation

The Millennial Revolution eBook

The quick-and-dirty elevator pitch: The Millennial Revolution contains insights from me and other Millennials about what it takes to attract, manage, and retain the best and brightest of our generation. Plus there’s an MP3 of me giving a talk about this to a room full of executives and business owners.

What’s in this sexy new eBook you ask?

Great question!

From the back cover:

The Millennial Revolution is happening whether leaders within organizations choose to acknowledge it or not. In this eBook, you will learn three things that every organization must do if they wish to attract, hire, and retain the best workers of the Millennial generation.

  • Discover why the prevailing management theory is driving away Millennials and what your organization can do to combat the exodus.
  • Find out why the traditional methods of motivation are not working. Then, learn about inexpensive and zero-cost alternatives to motivate Millennials.
  • Uncover secrets to creating a company culture that works for all employees – not just Millennials. Also, find out why you should get rid of your current mission statement and vision statement.

On top of all this, you’ll get a list of resources including books, blogs and organizations dedicated to helping leaders and companies make the transition for a new
generation of workers.

BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!! (Sorry…had to do it.)

You’ll get to hear from Millennials, Gen X’ers, and Boomers on this topic because I’ve included comments straight from my blog.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!! (Okay, I’m done.)

You’ll also get the 25 minute MP3 of my talk.

You’re probably thinking, “Well how much is he going to charge for all this goodness?” Absolutely nothing – that’s how much I love you.

Just finished The Millennial Revolution by Travis Robertson. Really great and quick read to give an overview of the growing need for companies to address their management style and how it fits with the newest generation of the workforce.

Great job, Travis! Looking forward to your next project like this!

    Excellent work, Travis!
    Two comments:
    1. Autonomy is key. You are right on track by saying, “If you don’t give your employees autonomy, someone else will.” The days of motivation through micro-managing are over, and it certainly doesn’t work for Millennials. They need to be freed to use their creativity and imagination.

    2. We lead most effectively through passion. I agree with your statement, “If you don’t have a passion for something,,,your team won’t either.” My recent research revealed that passion influences Millennials more than any other characteristic. To be most effective, leaders must demonstrate their passion and enthusiasm to others. Passion motivates Millennials, and it is contagious.

Just listened to the Millennial MP3 and read the eBook. I’m 56 and own two businesses. I was one of those Boomers who figured the Millennial generation were mostly lazy, rudderless, entitled, and living in their Mom’s basement. But I desperately need their help with technology and to provide new blood and new ideas. I also need them for an eventual exit strategy. Travis’s speech and eBook broadened my thinking, provided hope, and taught me concrete ways to recruit and motivate this important generation! Thanks Travis.

Dan, thank you so much for your review! I’m glad you found the information useful and helpful. It is leaders like you who will be the ones who shape our generation and teach us how to lead with humility and character. After all, we are in desperate need of mentors and coaches to help us in our journey.

      Thank you again!

Travis truly understands how business is shifting and rapidly evolving. This ebook is proof of that and is a quick, invaluable read. It doesn’t matter if you run a business or if you’re just getting into the workplace, you should read The Millennial Revolution.

Thank you so much, Zack! I really appreciate the feedback and support. :)

Absolutely, was great talking with you and hearing more about your vision.

What a great read! I am in real estate and feel fortunate that we don’t have as many changes to make as many other industries. Since the people who work for us are independent contractors and not emplyees I feel ahead of the learning curve.

I am a baby boomer and I manage the social media for a site aimed at baby boomers and, I have to say, I related 100% to everything you laid out in the Millennial Revolution eBook. I too am a fan of Gladwell’s ‘Right-brained thinker’ idea and I’m beginning to wonder whether the thinking as laid out in the Millennial Revolution is not actually the product of generational aspirations, but of the evolution of humanity’s aspirations.

AgeNation was founded on the premise that the activism and creativity boomers showed in the 60s is still there and ready to be engaged again. The fact is that before long 50% of the US population will be over 50, and that is going to require some rethinking in terms of how all generations live successfully in the future. We see that not as a problem, but an opportunity – for all.

We, at AgeNation, very much see this as a collaborative approach across all generations. And if your eBook represents the aspiration of the Millennial generation’s view of where we should be going then I can say, at least for the boomers we know and speak for (probably the right-brained thinkers among us), we are very much looking in the same direction. As our mission statement says, “Together we can learn to lead fuller and more meaningful lives in a new world where the common good, greater understanding and compassion, innovation, creativity and a deeper sense of responsibility for the earth and for future generations defines successful living.” (see http://agenation.com/about/mission/ for the full mission statement).

Therefore, any part we can play to make the Millennial Revolution/vision happen we are more than happy to do so. Just tell us what you would like us to do.

Great ebook/audiobook. I’m struck by how leading millennials works for other generations, too.

Very impressed with your understanding of the motivations of this group and how well you are able to explain them to old farts like me who really need to know. Oddly enough, the expectations/needs of millennials are pretty reasonable and I envy the ways they stay connected with their friends. I believe that small and young businesses can adapt to how they are wired. Bigger enterprises that need to rely on more standardized processes are going to have a harder time. Lithe, adaptive businesses will find ways to help these younger folks flourish, and will earn their loyalty and receive their best efforts and creativity. I can think of no better example of the term “win-win-win” that we hear bandied about lately.

Thanks Travis, for the Millennial Revolution mp3. The insights are spot on. My only question is whether the principles apply to a broader audience than just the Millennials.
I head up an organisation of around 1000 people, largely made up of GenX and Millennials, with a sprinkling of Baby Boomers. I’ve found that the principles that you refer to are applicable, certainly to GenX as well. We have incorporated them over the past 4 or 5 years and the impact on everyone, regardless of generation has been enormous.
In my opinion, it is perhaps a matter of degree.

    • http://travisrobertson.com Travis Robertson

Hey Zack! Thanks so much. You’re absolutely right in that the principles apply to more than just Millennials. I’ve found that Boomers (and to a lesser extent Gen Xers) are wanting more of this style of leadership and change within an organization.

The reason it’s happening as it is though is due to the size of the Millennial generation. They are the ones driving the change and forcing the hands of organizations to make the shift. But it definitely impacts a larger audience and is (usually) well-received.

      Appreciate your comment! :)

The ideas Travis presents apply not only to Millennials but to my Gen X. Who doesn’t want to feel they can make valid contributions to the workplace? Who doesn’t want to feel part of a team? Any company can create a better culture for employees from all generations by applying these principles.
